A four-part documentary film lifts the veil on an intimate world hidden from prying eyes – the world of Ukrainian witchcraft, magic, and esotericism. The film consists of conversations with modern Ukrainian witches, who welcome us into their homes, discuss their work, patiently answer questions, and delight in sharing something sacred. The backdrop to these conversations is the war – the film was shot in Kyiv during the distant summer of 2022, when the first shockwaves of the conflict were still fresh, hope was alive, and everyone was reinterpreting current events in their own way. As the director, but above all as a person, I wanted to seek and understand where the hidden lies, whether these hidden forces have been activated, and where they might be found. I was fortunate to answer some of my own questions through this journey. In the film, you will see the streets of Kyiv as they were in August 2022, the homes of Ukrainian witches, and the faces of modern Ukrainian witches – a part of Ukraine that may never be shown elsewhere. This film is a space accessible only to those who wish to see it.

I was fortunate enough to document my own desire and share it with others.As mentioned, the film is divided into four parts: Interiors, Love, Land, and Army. During the interviews, a natural thread emerged independently of my original structure, which we reviewed and defined as the main storyline. You will hear themes such as the unique nature of Ukrainian soil, what it means to be a Ukrainian witch, love spells, herbalism, card systems, and how witches support our army.The film was edited two years after shooting, and at the time of submission, it had not yet premiered.
